Helping HandsStudents in the Agriculture program went on a field trip to Davis Ranch - Helping Hands produce. Nineteen academy students and three teachers picked 3500 pounds of produce to be donated to the local food bank. Students learned how to plant a variety of crops. They also learned how to tell when they are ripe and how to harvest them. Students got to pick their own mixed box of produce to take home that included: eggplant, bell peppers, tomatoes, corn, watermelon and cantaloupe. The best part was watching the students eat the produce in the fields and realizing that vegetables taste good. We were told many times that this was the best field trip the students had ever been on! Rio Linda High School is ranked among the best!
Rio Linda Ranked among the Best High Schools by US News & World Report.
After evaluating 21,776 high schools across the nation, U.S. News & World Report has identified the most outstanding. Schools were awarded gold, silver, or bronze medals based on state proficiency standards and how well they prepare students for college as well as other factors.
Rio Linda High School was awarded a silver medal and ranked 1,605th nationally and 337th within the state of California. Using 2009-2010 school year data, the ranking methodology was based on the key principles that a great high school must serve all of its students well, not just those who are college-bound, and that it must be able to produce measurable academic outcomes to show the school is successfully educating its student body across a range of performance indicators. RLHS has 61% minority and 63% economically disadvantaged students out of 2,007 enrolled with 30% Advanced Placement class participation. Congratulations to the students, staff and administrators for their work in earning Rio Linda High School the silver medal ranking.
