Founded in 1981, the United States Academic Decathlon (USAD) is the most prestigious high school academic team competition in the United States. Its purpose is to develop and provide academic competitions, curriculum, and assessment to promote learning and academic excellence through teamwork among students of all achievement levels. Each year, high school students compete as school teams and as individuals in a series of scholastic events. Winning teams advance through local, regional, and state levels of competition. 2013 Sacramento County Academic Decathalon

Congratulations to the RLHS students and Mr. Abbott for their participation in Sacramento County’s 33rd Academic Decathlon.

The two student medal winners were:

  • Avleen Gill—Team Leadership Award
  • Riley Harris—Bronze in essay; Silver in literature; also Top Team Scorer

2013 Academic Decathlon Team

Congratulations to the RLHS Academic Decathlon team!  Schools Financial Credit Union hosted an awards banquet on May 7th for the competitors.

Our hard-working team placed 11th out of 25 schools, the highest ranking ever achieved by Rio Linda High School.  RLHS placed ahead of Highlands and Foothill High Schools to be the top team from our district.

Three seniors, Elizabeth Craig, Albert Delgado and Albert Olivarria were awarded for their efforts.  Elizabeth took home the top scoring team member honors. Albert Olivarria, won a bronze medal for performance in language & literature. And, Albert Delgado was given the team leadership award.
